Do I really need to use "new" iPhone screws?
Apple's official repair manuals state: "Never reinstall a screw after it has been removed. Install only new screws. iPhone screw grooves are covered in adhesive that can’t be reused." Is that really something I should be concerned with when doing a repair?

I believe what they mean with "adhesive that can't be reused" is threadlocker, in which case you can reapply to the old screws & put them back in. I would think that's fine but given apple says you shouldn't, might be best just to bite the bullet & get new screws so they can't go back to you & say "Oh, you put the old screws in, therefore this was an incorrect repair" in the absurd event they do.
Should be fine though, but yeah their adhesive is likely just threadlocker which is easy to reapply.
