I've had nothing but trouble with Samsung NVME installed in 27" iMacs.  (we have five each 2017-i7 and 2019-i9).

I picked up 5 of the Crucial 3rd generation 4TB NVME back in May and they've been working GREAT.

Some of the 2017 were originally i5 which I cpu upgraded, the 2019 have allways been i9 so I can't comment on that cpu swap.
